SO MY BACKGROUND, I HAVE A BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN KINESIOLOGY AND FITNESS LEADERSHIP THAT I GOT FROM U.A., AND THEN I HAVE MY MASTER'S OF SCIENCE IN KINESIOLOGY AND ADAPTED PHYSICAL ACTIVITY. I STARTED WORKING FOR PARKS AND REC IN LAST MARCH IN ATHLETICS AND WAS HELPING OUT WITH THE ADAPTIVE REC PROGRAMS. AND THEN I GOT HIRED FULL TIME AS THE IN DECEMBER.

SO THE GOAL FOR ADAPTED REC IS TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES TO PARTICIPATE IN PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES.

AND WE USE DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT TO INCREASE ACCESSIBILITY.

I'M ALSO VERY BAD AT GIVING PRESENTATIONS, SO I'M GOING TO TALK QUICK.

SO WORKING ON INCLUSION IN PARKS AND REC, SO OUR INCLUSIVITY GOAL FOR PARKS AND REC OR PARTY, IT'S KIND OF MOSTLY REFERENCED AS PARTY THROUGHOUT THIS PRESENTATION IS FOR ALL PROGRAMS TO BE ACCESSIBLE TO EVERYBODY.

AND SO THIS IS ACHIEVED BY PROVIDING ACCOMMODATIONS FOR ANY PROGRAM THAT ANYBODY IS INTERESTED IN. AND WE WORK DIRECTLY WITH THOSE INSTRUCTORS AND CONTRACTORS TO PROVIDE THE ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS, TOOLS, MATERIALS TO MAKE THEM MORE ACCESSIBLE.

SO OUR CURRENT PROGRAMS THAT ARE ON THAT LAMINATED SHEET, SO WE HAVE AN INDOOR AND OUTDOOR SPORTS PROGRAM.

SO WE DO THINGS LIKE TENNIS, YOGA, VOLLEYBALL, GOLF, AND WE HAVE ABOUT 30 INDIVIDUALS ACROSS THREE CLASSES A WEEK AND WE DO AN ART CLASS.

SO THIS WORKS DEFINING GROSS MOTOR SKILLS AND PROMOTES NON-VERBAL EXPRESSION.

AND WE HAVE ABOUT 20 INDIVIDUALS ACROSS TWO CLASSES A WEEK AND THEN WE HAVE A CHILDREN'S PROGRAM THAT IS A COMBO CLASS OF KIND OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, ARTS AND CRAFTS, SOCIALIZATION.

AND SO WE HAVE KIDS FROM ALL OVER KIND OF THE NORTH TEXAS AREA FROM PILOT POINT AND OF COURSE, AND WE HAVE A SOCIAL CONNECTIONS PROGRAM.

SO THESE ARE ACTIVITIES THAT ARE KIND OF PURELY JUST FOR FUN.

SO THESE ARE TO WORK ON SOCIALIZATION, WORK ON YOUR PERSONAL SKILLS, AND TO MAKE FRIENDS AND MEET NEW PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY.

SO WE'VE DONE BOWLING, WE'VE DONE PICNICS, WE'VE DONE BINGO, WE'VE DONE LUNCHES IN THE PARK AND WE HAVE DANCES.

SO WE HAVE MONTHLY DANCES EVERY SECOND FRIDAY AT NORTH LAKES AND THEN WE HAVE OUR ANNUAL SWEETHEART BOWL. THIS LAST YEAR WAS THE FIRST YEAR IN TWO YEARS THAT WE HAD IT AND WE HAD ABOUT 50 PEOPLE COME OUT.

SO DEFINITELY GOOD TO KIND OF BRING THAT BACK EVEN IN OUR TIMES.

AND THEN WE ARE WORKING ON IMPROVING OUR COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT.

SO WE'RE DOING THINGS LIKE WORKING WITH BEAUTIFUL ARTS DAY COMING UP AND THEN THE RED BOOK FESTIVAL. AND SO SOME OF OUR PAST PROGRAMS THAT ARE ON THAT NON LAMINATED SHEET.

SO WE DID A SUMMER KIDS SPORTS SAMPLER.

SO WE DID A ROTATING SCHEDULE OF SPORTS, ABOUT EIGHT KIDS THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER, AND IT WILL BE OFFERED AGAIN THIS SUMMER, JUNE THROUGH AUGUST.

AND WE HAD AN ADAPTED CAMP, WHICH WAS A WEEK LONG HALF DAY CAMP THAT HAD SPORTS, ARTS AND CRAFTS, SENSORY PLAY.

AND WE HAD ABOUT SEVEN KIDS.

AND THIS WEEK OR THIS SUMMER, WE'RE GOING TO OFFER IT TWO WEEKS, ONE IN JUNE AND ONE IN JULY. SO OUR FUTURE GOAL IS FOR PARKS AND REC.

SO WE WANT TO INCREASE ADAPTIVE PROGRAM PHYSICAL ACTIVITY OFFERINGS SPECIFICALLY JUST KIND OF EXPAND MORE TO MORE MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY AND KIND OF DIFFERENT AREAS THAT WE STILL FEEL LIKE NEED A LITTLE BIT MORE ENGAGEMENT.

AND WE WANT TO INCREASE OUR ADULT PROGRAMS PARTICIPATION BY 50% IN THIS YEAR AND 2022 AND INCREASE CHILDREN'S PROGRAM PARTICIPATION BY 200% IN 2022.

AND TO DO THIS, WE WANT TO REALLY STREAMLINE OUR MARKETING AND REACH A GREATER AUDIENCE BECAUSE WE'RE KIND OF NOT EXACTLY REACHING THE PEOPLE THAT NEED TO BE HEARING ABOUT IT.

SO WE'RE WORKING ON THAT AND WE WANT TO INCREASE COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT AND OUR PARTY INVOLVEMENT. SO WORKING MONTHLY WITH DIFFERENT PARKS AND REC DEPARTMENT PROGRAMS, THE UNIVERSITIES AND COMMUNITY PROGRAMS. SO WE ALSO WANT TO INSTALL INCLUSIVE PLAYGROUNDS.

SO WE WANT TO REDO THE NORTH PARK PLAYGROUND AND THEN WE WANT TO ADD A FEATURE SOUTHWEST PARK AND MAKE THAT ONE INCLUSIVE FROM THE GET GO.

SO THIS IS INCLUDED IN OUR CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PLAN.

SO THERE'S NO FUNDING IDENTIFIED TO DATE.

IT'S A POSSIBLE BOND PROJECT AND PARTNERSHIP WITH PARKS FOUNDATION AND CREATING A FOCUS GROUP FOR THIS PROJECT.

SO OF COURSE, THAT IS DEPENDENT ON ABILITY LEVELS.

THERE'S A LOT OF FLEXIBILITY THAT IF SOMEBODY WAS, SAY, 18, BUT MAYBE NEEDED A LITTLE BIT MORE ASSISTANCE, THEN THEY COULD BE IN THAT CHILDREN'S PROGRAM.

IT JUST REALLY DEPENDS ON WHAT THEIR NEEDS ARE AND WORKING TO FIND THE BEST SOLUTION FOR THEM. AND SO ARE THERE FEES ASSOCIATED WITH YOUR ACTIVITIES? YES. SO MOST OF OUR PROGRAMS, THE SPORTS, SOME OF THE SOCIAL CONNECTIONS AND THEN ARTS AND CRAFTS IS INCLUDED WITH OUR REC PATHS.

SO THAT ONE IS $10 A YEAR.

SO IT'S FAIRLY LOW COST.

AND THEN SOME OF THE SOCIAL CONNECTIONS, USUALLY THE ONES THAT WE'RE HAVING TO SPEND A LITTLE BIT MORE MONEY ON FOR DOING CATERING OR THINGS LIKE THAT.

WE DO WORK WITH THE PLACES THAT WE'RE HAVING THESE ACT TO GET A LOWER COST.

SO WORKING WITH MORE PLACES IN THE COMMUNITY BECAUSE THEY TEND TO BE A LITTLE BIT MORE WILLING TO KIND OF GIVE US A DISCOUNT AND SAY TO REALLY PROMOTE THESE COMMUNITY PROGRAMS AND STUFF. HAVE YOU BEEN ALLOWED TO PROMOTE THESE PROGRAMS IN THE SCHOOLS? NO. PART OF THAT IS I HAVEN'T TRIED.

SO THAT'S PART OF THE EXPANDING ON THE MARKETING.

I AM IN TOUCH WITH A COUPLE OF THE ADOPTED PHYSICAL EDUCATORS IN NYC, SO IT'S JUST KIND OF A CONVERSATION THAT WE HAVEN'T GOTTEN TO YET AS FAR AS HOW WE CAN PROMOTE THAT DIRECTLY TO THE STUDENTS THERE AT THE SCHOOLS.

AND SO WITH YOUR INCREASE TO 200%, WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT CURRENTLY? SO OUR PROGRAM THAT WE'VE HAD RUNNING SINCE JANUARY, WE HAVE ABOUT BETWEEN TWO AND FOUR KIDS REGULARLY.

SO THAT IS A BIG STEP DOWN FROM THE SUMMER.

A LARGE PART OF THAT WAS FROM THE MASK MANDATE.

SO WE'RE HOPING THAT WE'LL SEE AN INCREASE OF NUMBERS JUST FROM THAT AS WELL AS IN THE SUMMER. WE TEND TO HAVE MORE TURNOUT JUST BECAUSE THERE'S MORE TIME.

WE WORK WITH THE DENVER PARKS FOUNDATION, WHICH IS A 500 1C3 NONPROFIT PARTNER, AND THEY ARE GOING TO START KICKING OFF A CAMPAIGN TO SOLICIT DONATIONS.

SO THEY'RE TRYING TO RAISE HALF THE FUNDS TO BE ABLE TO THEN CONSTRUCT THE PARK.

WE'RE LOOKING AT 2.5 TO $3 MILLION TO CONSTRUCT A PARK.

AND THEN WE WILL WORK WITH A MANUFACTURER OR A CONSTRUCTION COMPANY WHO SPECIALIZES IN INCLUSIVE PLAYGROUNDS TO BE ABLE TO CONSTRUCT AND DESIGN AND THEN BUILD THAT SPECIFIC PLAYGROUND. BUT WE ALSO MENTIONED THE FOCUS GROUP, SO WE'LL WORK WITH THE FOCUS GROUP TO PICK OUT SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND WHAT WE WANT THE PLAYGROUND TO LOOK LIKE, WHAT WE WANT INCLUDED. SO ALL OF THE SAFETY FEATURES, ALL OF THE PLAY FEATURES, THOSE WILL BE FIGURED OUT OR DECIDED ON WITH INPUT FROM THE FOCUS GROUP AND THE CONSULTANTS AND PARKS SET.

A LOT OF THE FEATURES OF ADAPTIVE PARKS AND PLAYGROUNDS IS HAVING THINGS LIKE UNITARY SURFACES. THEY'RE NON-SLIP AND WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE THAT ARE MUCH EASIER FOR MOBILITY DEVICES RATHER THAN WOOD CHIPS.

AND THEN THEY HAVE A LOT OF DISABILITY SPECIFIC EQUIPMENT LIKE WHEELCHAIR SWINGS, SEESAWS, THINGS LIKE THAT, THAT HAVE SOME EXTRA STRAPS AND EXTRA HOLDINGS.

RATHER THAN TRYING TO HAVE A CHILD THAT NEEDS A LITTLE BIT MORE ASSISTANCE TO MAKE IT WORK ON TRADITIONAL EQUIPMENT.

SO THOSE SAFETY FEATURES ARE KIND OF BUILT INTO THOSE STRUCTURES.

AND REALLY, I GUESS, WELL, JUST AS A MEMBER OF THE COMMUNITY, ONE OF OUR BIG THINGS THAT WE SEE AS BEING SO DO ANYTIME WE HAVE A PARKS AND REC CONSERVATION ASSISTANCE LADY, THAT WOULD DEFINITELY BE INCLUDED. I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THOSE ARE ADAPTIVE.

BUT YOU'VE SEEN A LOT WITH OUR PLAYGROUNDS THAT ARE SPECIFIC.

FOR TODDLERS, THEY'RE USUALLY THE ONES THAT ARE FENCED IN.

SO WE PROBABLY WOULD HAVE A FENCE THAT'S NOT QUITE EXACTLY AROUND THE PLAYGROUND, BUT MAYBE IN A VICINITY OF IT.

SO THEN THAT WAY IT IS CONTAINED BUT STILL FEELS OPEN.

THERE'S ALSO CERTAIN FEATURES THAT THEY INCLUDE SENSORY WALLS OR SENSORY CUBBIES OR NOOKS AND THOSE SORTS OF FEATURES THAT WE CAN INCLUDE IN THE PLAYGROUND AS WELL.

AND HE WAS PART OF THE TAKE ME HOME PROGRAM.

AND SO WHILE THE OFFICERS AND RESPONDERS WERE SEARCHING FOR HIM, THEY KIND OF KNEW WHAT CONSIDERATIONS TO MAKE DURING THAT RESPONSE.

AND SO IT'S BEEN A REAL SUCCESSFUL PROGRAM THAT WE'RE CONTINUING TO TRY TO GROW AND GROW.

THE NEXT ONE IS THE SEARCH PROGRAM.

THE SEARCH PROGRAM IS A POLICE DEPARTMENT'S CRISIS INTERVENTION RESPONSE TEAM, AND THAT IS FOR PEOPLE THAT MIGHT BE EXPERIENCING MENTAL HEALTH CRISES.

AND SO IT'S PART OF OUR MENTAL HEALTH DIVISION, AND THEY HAVE KIND OF MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS THAT WILL RESPOND WITH THE OFFICERS TO ASSIST AS NEEDED AND TRY TO WORK THROUGH THAT SITUATION WITH THEM.

TO DATE, FROM MAY TO DECEMBER OF LAST YEAR, THERE WERE 169 ORDERS COMPLETED AND 814 MENTAL HEALTH INFORMATION REPORTS WERE ASSIGNED TO THE TEAM.

SO THOSE WERE REPORTS THAT CAME IN THAT WERE KIND OF IDENTIFIED AS A FIT FOR THIS TEAM.

AND THEN THERE WERE 1487 FOLLOW UPS ON THOSE REPORTS TO CHECK ON THE INDIVIDUALS, MAKE SURE THAT THEY'RE CONNECTED WITH THE RIGHT SERVICES.

SO THE IDEA ISN'T THAT THEY GO AND FIX THE ISSUE OR JUST MAKE THAT SINGULAR RESPONSE.

WHAT THEIR HOPE IS IS THAT THEY'RE ABLE TO CONNECT THEM WITH COMMUNITY RESOURCES TO MAKE SURE THAT IT'S NOT JUST A ONE TIME TOUCHPOINT WITH THEM, THAT THEY CAN CONTINUE TO RECEIVE PROGRAMS OR ASSISTANCE AS THEY NEED THAT.

AND THEN THE STAFF WAS PRESENT ON 346 ACTIVE CALLS ALONG WITH THAT PATROL OFFICER.

AND SO IT'S A PROGRAM THAT HAS GOTTEN OFF TO A VERY GOOD START.

IT STARTED NOT TOO LONG AGO WITH THAT MENTAL HEALTH DIVISION, AND IT'S CONTINUING TO GROW

AND WE'RE SEEING A LOT OF SUCCESS WITH THAT.

THE NEXT ONE IS THE ALL CROSSWALK.

THIS WAS PRESENTED TO THE COMMITTEE, I WANT TO SAY, PRIOR TO COVID IN NOVEMBER 19.

AND SO AROUND THE DOWNTOWN SQUARE.

THERE'S THE ALL WALK CROSSWALK.

SO IF YOU'RE FAMILIAR WITH IT, ONE SIDE OF TRAFFIC GOES AND THEN THE CROSS TRAFFIC GOES AND THEN THE ENTIRE INTERSECTION STOPS DOWN SO THAT PEOPLE CAN CROSS ANY DIRECTION WITHOUT HAVING TO WORRY ABOUT TRAFFIC.

ONE THING THAT I'LL POINT OUT IS THAT THEY ASKED US TO COME BACK AND WE'RE GOING TO COME BACK KIND OF LATER IN THE SPRING WITH AN EXPEDITED IMPLEMENTATION PLAN AND WHAT THAT WOULD LOOK LIKE. AND SO THE PLAN THAT WAS PRESENTED TO Y'ALL, I THINK WAS 20 OR 25 OR 30 YEARS. AND THEY ASKED WHAT 15 YEARS WOULD LOOK LIKE TO GET THEIR RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THAT PLAN IMPLEMENTED.

AND SO WE WENT BACK TO THE CONSULTANT AND THEY'RE WORKING ON THAT.

AND SO AS SOON AS WE FIND OUT THAT INFORMATION, WHAT THAT WOULD LOOK LIKE, WE'LL ALSO REPORT THAT. BACK TO YOU ALL.

BUT THAT'S SOMETHING IT'S A GREAT QUESTION TO ASK.

AND SO WE HAVE OUR GRANTS PROJECT, OUR GRANTS ADMINISTRATION TEAM, AND THAT'S SOMETHING THAT AS A SEE IT, IF IT EVER COMES UP IN THE FUTURE THAT THEY MIGHT RECOGNIZE AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO REPORT BACK TO YOU ALL THAT IT MIGHT BECOME AVAILABLE.

AND SO JUST A COUPLE MORE SOLID WASTE SERVICES IN THEIR ASSISTANCE PROGRAM.

BACK IN MARCH OF LAST YEAR, YOU RECEIVED THE PRESENTATION ABOUT POTENTIAL CHANGES TO THE PORCH COLLECTION PROGRAM, WHICH IS NOW CALLED SOLID WASTE SERVICES ASSISTANCE PROGRAM.

AND SO AFTER THAT, THE PPB, THE PUBLIC UTILITIES BOARD AND THE AND THE COMMITTEE HERE APPROVED MODIFICATIONS WHICH INCLUDED THE DEPARTMENT REMOVING THE YELLOW LIDS FOR THAT PROGRAM. AND SO AS OF VALENTINE'S DAY OF THIS YEAR, THERE'S 268 CUSTOMERS ON THIS PROGRAM THAT RECEIVE THAT SPECIALIZED SERVICE.

AND JUST SOME MORE FACTS FOR YOU.

WE AUDITED THEM.

SO WE HAVE INTERNS THAT GO THROUGH THE NEIGHBORHOODS AND MAKE SURE THAT RECYCLING IS PART OF IT. BUT WE ALSO AUDIT KIND OF THE PROGRAM USAGE AND IT REVEALED THAT 31 OF THOSE 268 CUSTOMERS, THEY WERE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE SERVICE DUE TO ACCOUNTS CHANGING NAMES.

AND SO WE TALKED TO THEM AND RECEIVE COMPLETED APPLICATIONS FROM 65 RESIDENTS SINCE THEN.

AND OF THOSE 268, 203 HAVE EITHER NOT SUBMITTED AN APPLICATION OR THEIR APPLICATION WAS LOST IN TRANSIT.

AND SO IF 31 NON ELIGIBLE CUSTOMERS ARE SUBTRACTED FROM THE 203 NON RESPONSIVE CUSTOMERS, THEN THERE'S 172 CUSTOMERS WHO FAILED TO RESPOND BY SUBMITTING AN APPLICATION.

BUT ALL OF THOSE YELLOW CONTAINER LIDS HAVE BEEN REMOVED AND REPLACED WITH THREE LIDS.

AND SO THAT PROGRAM, ONE OF THE GOOD THINGS ABOUT HAVING SOLID WASTE SERVICES IN-HOUSE RUN BY THE CITY IS THAT WE'RE ABLE TO CUSTOMIZE THOSE THINGS.

AND SO AS MORE AND MORE PEOPLE REACH OUT TO US, MAYBE NEEDING THIS COLLECTION SERVICE, WE'RE ABLE TO QUICKLY DEPLOY THAT AND WORK WITH THEM, MAKE SURE THAT THEY GET ALL OF THAT CORRECT INFORMATION OUT THERE.
